Upward Bound - Summer Resident Assistants (part-time)

SUMMARY:

TRIO Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded program that prepares high school students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The summer program includes academic, cultural, and recreational activities. Final week of the summer program, UB scholars participate in an out-of-state field trip with chaperones including parents, alumni, staff/faculty, and possibly RA’s.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Salary: $9.00 an hour (work hours will vary) plus FREE Room & Board

May or June 2017 (TBA) – Staff Training

June 19 - July 29, 2017 – Summer Program

Position: Part-time, Hourly (non-benefit eligible)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures the well-being of 40-60 scholars, grades 9-12, with regard to health, safety, morale, discipline, interpersonal relationships within the group, and application of studies. Resident Assistants (RA’s) provide supervision for scholars and are expected to work every Monday for check-in and remain on duty until check-out on Fridays. RA’s supervise athletic activities, chaperone field trips, conduct hall meetings, create activities, and act as role models and mentors.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

We encourage applications from underrepresented groups. Applicants must be willing to accept a full-time commitment, should not consider employment elsewhere, work cooperatively with other residential staff, and be willing to enforce program rules.

Prospective applicants should be college students in good academic standing. Applicants should be energetic and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Experience living in resident halls and good organizational skills are essential.

Preferred candidates have:

 

 Experience working with low-income, first-generation and at-risk students

 Prior residential advisor or camp counselor experience

 TRIO experience (Upward Bound, Student Support Services, and/or McNair scholars).
