Business Analyst


The Business Analyst provides technical support for the administrative support offices. This includes reviewing and enhancing process flows, assisting with data analysis, generating business intelligence dashboards and complex reports, ensuring data integrity and availability, and troubleshooting program and processing problems, as well as build, test, deploy, and support new applications.



The position will be responsible for working with the different university departments in gathering requirements, assisting with design and configuration activities, testing applications, documenting policies/procedures and process flows and supporting the different work teams throughout the academic calendar year. Maintenance, enhancement and daily operation of the campus student information system (Jenzabar and Campus Management) and affiliated information systems. Provides high- level technical and functional analysis on specific campus wide projects critical to daily student data and process operations that impact students, faculty, and staff. The Business Analyst will work to help streamline data driven processes and find business efficiency through data analysis. Operational management, analysis, planning, implementation, and maintenance of a system that addresses the business needs of the academic and administrative units. Provide Analytics and Reporting solutions and expertise. Partner with stakeholders to track and analyze the operational influences on mission critical systems. Plan, coordinate, execute and validate system remediation tasks and business reporting needs / analytics requirements. Solicit, capture, and understand business requirements. Effectively translate business needs into functional system requirements. Participate in design reviews and collaborative system integration planning activities. Provide technical expertise and consultative services to end users. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the stakeholders needs within the framework of Institutional, College, Divisional/Departmental goals and objectives. Understand underlying needs of the stakeholder beyond what is initially expressed. Deliver stable, tested, and effective solutions surpassing stakeholder expectations. Support multiple projects and provide appropriate status updates to stakeholder. Manage to agreed-upon project timelines and scope. Provide detailed written and verbal status updates to management. Collaborate with other developers and business analysts to share knowledge and best practices. Responsible for identifying issues and risks along with respective resolution and risk mitigation strategies. Support technical releases and upgrade projects. Support training sessions. Perform quality assurance reviews as needed. Monitors the ongoing operation and performs activities to assist with performance tuning and troubleshooting of integration and application issues to ensure the performance and workflow. Coordinate functional testing cycles, defects tracking and resolutions. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation on requirements, functional specifications, testing procedures, and application configurations. Provide documentation and training of new processes and functional features to end users.



Proven experience serving as a business analyst in a complex work environment. Bachelor's degree and three to five years of programming experience using SQL ideal. Excellent communication skills, end user service skills, and attention to detail are essential. Ability to troubleshoot and debug programming code and related processes are required. Strong knowledge of applicable methodologies, tools, standards, and procedures. Willingness and commitment to continued training, education, and certification as necessary to remain current in the field and maintain systems appropriately. Work is performed in a normal office setting.  Considerable job stress is involved when deadlines need to be met and in handling emergency situations. Weekend and/or non-standard hours may be required to ensure availability of the University’s administrative systems. Participation in career oriented professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Experience comprehending, interpreting, and applying policies; coordinating a team for effective results; continually adjusting in a dynamic environment; and working as a member of a team. Familiarity with tactical analysis and decision-making processes in higher education environments. Analytical skills with and experience in systems analysis and business process engineering. Skill to learn unfamiliar processes, translating knowledge into new contexts, interpreting and comparing/contrasting facts, ordering and inferring causes, forecasting consequences, using methods and concepts in new situations, solving problems, classifying and organizing data, generalizing from facts, combining and relating knowledge from several areas, drawing conclusions, comparing and discriminating between ideas, making choices based on reasoned argument.
