SUMMARY: The Writing Center at Siena Heights University seeks a qualified graduate student for a graduate assistantship anticipated to begin with the fall 2017 session. The Graduate Assistant Writing Tutor is hired with an initial one academic year commitment with the possibility of serving in the position for up to three academic years.
Maintain a 15-20 hour per week work schedule that coincides with the needs of post-traditional and graduate students. Reading and responding to writing assignments during either face-to-face appointments on multiple campuses and via Skype or other online or e-applications. Work one-on-one with graduate and undergraduate students to strengthen their composition and research-citation skills. Complete initial training sessions at the beginning of the fall 2017 session, and periodic training assignments (short readings and exercises) throughout the year. Respond to appointment requests and maintain a record of appointments. Attend regular meetings with the GC/CPS Dean, Associate Dean, Coordinator of Student Success, and/or faculty.
Strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills; familiarity with American Psychological Association (APA) formatting guidelines is strongly preferred. Ability to provide feedback on a variety of graduate and undergraduate writing assignments. Ability to work independently. Comfortable giving and receiving constructive criticism. Available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and possibly weekends, as scheduled. Bachelor’s degree required with acceptance into the Teacher Education, Counselor Education, or Leadership M.A. or MBA program at Siena Heights University Graduate College. Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA while attending the Graduate College.
Tuition remission of up to 18 credit hours total each year (during the fall, winter, and summer sessions).
