New and Returning Students who are FIRST-TIME applicants for Financial Aid.
Please review the process thoroughly! Make note of important submission deadlines.

Step 1
- Apply
for Admission to Siena Heights University. (New Students
ONLY)
- Submit
all official transcripts to Siena Heights University so you
can be fully accepted.
- Register for classes.
(If you are enrolled in eight-week cycles, register for both cycles
at the beginning of each semester)
- Contact your campus
site with questions about admissions or registration.
NOTE: You must complete the above steps in order
to be awarded financial aid.
Step 2
- Apply for a PIN number on
the web at www.pin.ed.gov
If you
are a dependent student, you and your parents
will individually need to apply for a PIN.
- All new PIN holders are required
to “activate” their PIN for added security
against identity theft. PIN activation is required only once. To activate your PIN, go to www.pin.ed.gov
and
select the “Activate My PIN” link.
- Locate a copy of your tax
return and W-2 form for the calendar year PRIOR to the academic year
which you will use
to complete the FAFSA. If you are a dependent student, you will
also need your parents' social security numbers and
signed federal tax returns.
- Complete the FAFSA on the
web at www.fafsa.ed.gov
with
Siena Heights University federal school code: 002316.
Be sure to select Siena as the first school of choice AND the correct
academic year.
If you have already completed the
FAFSA with another institution listed as the first school of choice, you
must
update the FAFSA with Siena’s school code, 002316, as the first
school of choice through one of the following options:
- Select “make corrections
to a processed FAFSA” online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
.
You will need your PIN to make
corrections online.
- Contact the Federal
Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 to make corrections
to your school
list via phone. You will need your DRN (Data Release Number) which
is located in the lower left hand corner of
your student aid report.
NOTE: The PIN & DRN are two different numbers.
You can only make corrections via the web with your PIN;
you can only make corrections over the phone with your DRN.

Step 3
- The federal government will process
your ONLINE FAFSA in 2-3 days (paper applications take 4-6 weeks) and
you will receive the results entitled Student Aid Report (SAR). Please
review your SAR and check your answers. Siena
should receive the SAR results within one week of you receiving the
results.
Step 4
NOTE: If
you are currently unemployed, you must also submit the Employer Tuition
Benefit Verification Form. The Employer
Tuition Benefit Verification Form provides an entry for students to
indicate if they are currently unemployed.
Step 5
- If your application is chosen for
verification you will be required to complete either the
dependent or independent
verification worksheet and provide copies of you and/or your parents
(if applicable) completed and signed federal
income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040EZ, 1040A or TeleFile Tax Record:
The Telefile copy must contain the 10-digit IRS
confirmation # and be signed by the filer anywhere at the bottom of
the form). Please submit all required documents to the Financial Aid Office.
Step 6
- Once your financial aid file
is complete you will receive an award letter outlining your
financial aid package.
- Awarded one or more grants? There
is no additional student paperwork required to accept!

directions to complete the Federal Stafford Loan application by selecting
Applying for Stafford Loan.
- Complete the
Entrance Interview and Master Promissory Note (MPN)
