Recent Awards and Achievements

Author of Reading Comprehension Strategies: Providing Explicit Instruction (2008). This book extends the research on comprehension strategy instruction showing how the strategies were explicitly taught to second graders, and how they responded to the instruction. Teachers and parents can successfully use the procedure as a guide, modifying it for teaching comprehension strategies at any grade level.

My teaching provides a supportive environment that is conducive to learning through a repertoire of learning activities that are exciting, meaningful, and that use multiple pathways to stimulate learners. I am committed to empowering student teachers with the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality instruction while promoting a lifelong love of reading and learning. I am enthusiastic about promoting global literacy. Quality teaching and access to literacy resources can make a difference.
