Watercolor Exhibition Hosted by Siena Heights University From Oct. 31-Dec. 8; Artist Reception Nov. 11
The Klemm Gallery in Studio Angelico is hosting the watercolor painting exhibition “Stanley Louis Rosenthal: Illusions...” from Oct. 31-Dec. 8.
There will be an artist’s slide lecture at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in Rueckert Auditorium, with a reception for the artist scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 11.
Rosenthal, a resident of Huntington Woods, Mich., is Professor of Art and Art History at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. A 1964 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., he received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Wayne State in 1967.
He is recipient of numerous awards as an artist, including the Greg Thielen Memorial Award from Watercolor USA and the Springfield Museum Purchase Award in 2005. He is a member of the Watercolor USA Honor Society, the Michigan Water Color Society, the College Art Association, the Mid America College Art Association and the Michigan Association of Printmakers.
“It is up to each observer to decide what the meaning is,” said Rosenthal as part of his artist’s statement. “Often even I don’t fully understand what is going on in an image. It is up to each person to let the work tell them a story of their own.”
Gallery hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and from noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery will be closed for Thanksgiving break, Nov. 22-27. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
