About: Language Arts

The Language Arts major builds on the Elementary Teacher Certification program with its focus on all forms of communication — listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and visually representing.

The Language Arts major includes courses such as Content Area Reading, Teaching Writing, Oral Interpretation of Children’s Literature, Adolescent Literature and Strategies for Teaching Language Arts. Students also select electives from English, Theater, Art and Music. Options include: Introduction to Journalism, Introduction to Music and Film Study and Analysis. Interested students may add a Theater concentration by completing extra courses. For more information, go to the Teacher Education page.
