What: Performance and Lecture on Hypermedia Arts and Poetics

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1

Featured in galleries and digital archives worldwide, Jason Nelson’s odd creations have earned him acclaim as a chief innovator in the emerging field electronic poetry. Always playful, often haunting, his works combine the focused control of poetic language with the spontaneous feel of a video game.

His Feb. 1 lecture will combine live reading and audiovisual projections, followed by a question and answer period. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Rueckert Auditorium on the campus of Siena Heights University. It is sponsored by the SHU English Department and is free and open to the public.

Originally from Oklahoma, and with an MFA in poetry from Bowling Green State University, Nelson currently lectures in Digital Writing at Griffith University in Australia. After speaking at Siena Heights, he will present a series of lectures for University of Maryland and the Maryland Institute of Technology.

Selections from his work can be viewed at www.secrettechnology.com and www.heliozoa.com.
