Two Records in One Week

Laura Panozzo sets all-time women's rebounding and scoring marks for Saints

This has been a record-breaking year for Laura Panozzo. Make that a record-breaking week.

On Jan. 24, Panozzo set the new career rebounding mark for the Siena Heights women’s basketball program. Just a week later, she became the Siena women’s all-time leading scorer in a 89-78 victory over Michigan-Dearborn Jan. 31.panozzo2.jpg

Panozzo, from Berkley, Mich., surpassed Sheila Landerschier’s previous total of 1,693 points with a 31-point effort against Dearborn. She currently has 1,722 points before the Feb. 3 game against Davenport.

Panozzo becomes the only Saint – male or female – to have more than 1,700 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career. She trails only former men’s standouts Jeff Gullekson (1,224) in career rebounds and Sean Carlson (1,733) and Brent Tucker (2,122) in career points.

The sport management major who carries a B average is looking for her second straight first team All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honor. She also holds the single-game rebounding record, pulling down 27 boards in a game last season.

An NAIA Honorable Mention All-American selection last season, she is currently averaging 16.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season. Panozzo has already been named WHAC Player of the Week four times this season.
