Virginia Knuth Murray Scholarship

Virginia Knuth Murray Scholarship

You may have recently read that Siena Heights University is returning to its roots and starting a nursing program. This is in response to the nationwide need for qualified nurses. As the program begins to take shape, future nursing students can take comfort in the fact Siena Heights is already prepared to meet some of their financial needs.

The Virginia Knuth Murray Scholarship was established with such students in mind.  Virginia Murray was a licensed alcohol and drug counselor who went back to school to become a nurse practitioner. She worked with students at the University of Miami’s student health center. It was during this time she worked with former Siena Heights University President Rick Artman, who was on the student affairs staff at Miami. Virginia’s connection with Siena continued to grow throughout the years, and eventually the Virginia Knuth Murray Scholarship was established.

The endowed scholarship is primarily for students interested in nursing careers. A unique feature of this scholarship is that it also recognizes the needs of nurses returning to school to earn their baccalaureate. Women interested in pursuing other medical careers are also eligible.

We are proud to have this scholarship available as we start our new program in nursing. We also look forward to the future generations of Siena Heights University nursing students who will be able to pursue their dreams, thanks to people like Virginia Murray.
