SHU Biology students Marcella Ehmann, Jared Pirkle and Lauren Coe were awarded grants from the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society to support their senior research projects.
Ehmann, from Jackson, Mich. (East Jackson High School), examined acidic beverages and the protective role of saliva in dental dissolution.
Pirkle, from Adrian, Mich. (Deerfield High School), studied the effects of dark-phase shortening on the wheel-running activity of the house mouse.
Coe, from Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg High School), investigated the egg laying and larval performance of Pieris rapae with regards to color mutants of Brassica rapa.
They each successfully completed a research proposal, which included a title, abstract, hypothesis, objectives, research plans, possible findings, related literature and a budget.
The three will present the results of their research at the district-regional conference at Purdue University North Central and/or national TriBeta conference in Puerto Rico.
