Author Jeannette Walls Visits SHU Sept. 27

Book Signing, Discussion Scheduled for Her New York Times Bestseller “The Glass Castle”

Bestselling author Jeannette Walls will visit Siena Heights University Sept. 27 for a book signing and discussion of her memoir, The Glass Castle.jeannette-walls.jpg

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lumen Ecclesiae Chapel on the SHU campus, and is free and open to the public.

Walls has written for New York Magazine, Esquire and USA Today, and appears regularly on The Today Show, CNN and PrimeTimeLive. The Glass Castle, published in 2005, made the New York Times bestseller list and is currently being made into a movie. The book details how Walls and her three siblings were raised by nomadic parents, roaming America whenever money or food ran out. It details the trials and challenges of such a lifestyle.

The book is also being used as part of the First Year Experience program at Siena Heights. The program helps orient new students to Siena’s academic community by introducing a common reading and discussion experience with fellow classmates, faculty and staff. Discussion of the book will carry over into the fall semester, and student activities and other courses and departments may adopt themes from the book to build community experiences and projects.

For more information about the event, please contact SHU Director of FYE and Student Activities Rachel Duff Anderson at 517-264-7929.
