SUMMARY:
The Major Gift Officer is responsible for securing major gifts for the University in order to meet short and long term fundraising objectives of the institution. Assists in the design, implementation and management of fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other University-related solicitations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Major Gift Officer is responsible for securing major gifts for the University in order to meet short and long term fundraising objectives of the institution. Assists in the design, implementation and management of fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other University-related solicitations. Designs individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for identified major prospects. Makes qualified and unqualified contacts, cultivates relationships with potential donors, and solicits gifts. Assist with the development of both long and short-range operational plans to strengthen and grow the major gifts program. Stewards gifts, implements gift specifications, and manages donor recognition programs. Plan and coordinate outreach activities aimed at increasing the donor pool and cultivating/stewarding existing prospects. Cultivates, solicits and stewards prospects through personal visits and written and oral communications. Manage a prospect pool of 150 potential donors. Assist in the development of departmental strategies for achieving annual goals. Work with Athletic and Academic Departments to build support for institutional activities and facilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in related field required, Masters preferred. At least five years of demonstratively successful experience in fund raising in an organization with viable and comprehensive major gifts development program. Experience with capital campaigns and planned giving is helpful. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage many projects simultaneously. High energy level with imaginative and entrepreneurial approach to donor centered fund raising. Proven success in working with volunteers. Proven interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability and willingness to travel frequently, sometimes at short notice and over weekends.
