Members of the St. Joseph College National Alumnae met with Bishop Gallagher of Detroit in 1932. The picture was taken on the steps of Madden Hall. Identified with the bishop is Catherine Clark (far right). St. Joseph College was renamed Siena Heights College in 1939.
You may have recently heard that Siena Heights University is starting a nursing program. This is in response to the nationwide need for qualified nurses. As the program begins to take shape, future nursing students can take comfort in the fact Siena Heights is already prepared to meet some of their financial needs. The Virginia Knuth Murray Scholarship was established with such students in mind.
You, too, can nominate a winner!
Who should SHU honor with next year’s Alumni Awards? Do you know someone who deserves to be recognized? The Alumni Association can’t honor people until they are nominated — so if you know someone who deserves to be considered, let the Alumni Office know. Nominations are welcome throughout the year, and nominees remain in the pool for three years.
One of the nation’s leading thinkers on the role of religion in world politics is this year’s featured speaker at the 6th annual Chiodini/Fontana Lecture Series on Ethics Feb. 26 at Siena Heights University. Father J. Bryan Hehir, SJ, former president of Catholic Charities USA and current faculty member at Harvard University, is scheduled to speak on the topic of “The Iraq Debate: Politics, Ethics and Strategy” at 7:30 p.m. in Francoeur Theatre on the SHU campus.
