Summer Engineering Courses Offered at SHU

Siena Heights University is offering two three-credit engineering courses this summer as a micro-credential designed to help support implementation of the new Michigan Science Standards for K-12 teachers.

Courses will be offered in two, one-week intensive sessions from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 19-23 and July 10-14 on the Adrian campus. Cost is $900 per course, plus applicable fees.

The courses, Engineering Design I and II, can count towards teacher certification renewals. They will teach the fundamentals of engineering design and how to apply it in the classroom, as well as use engineering principles to design and build a Rube Goldberg device. Students will also learn about robotics, basic programming, electronics and 3-D modeling, and enhance professional development planning that teachers can take back to the classroom.

SHU Director of Education Kelly Cichy, Ph.D., and SHU Director of Engineering Ryan Hamilton, Ph.D., are the course instructors.

Space is limited. For more information, contact Betsy Brooks at 517-264-7662 or ebrooks@sienaheights.edu.
