Homecoming Weekend 2013

Siena Heights University will dedicate its $9.1 million McLaughlin University Center as part of its Homecoming Weekend 2013 celebration Oct. 4-6 on the Adrian campus.
SHU opened the McLaughlin University Center on Aug. 1. The new, 34,000 square foot student and community facility houses the University’s dining service, which includes a Mongolian-style grill, a snack shop featuring Starbucks coffee and the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5.
Other weekend highlights include the Saints football team taking on the University of St. Francis (Ind.) at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 at O’Laughlin Stadium and Mike and Lynne Dawson Field. The weekend actually begins Oct. 3 with the Theatre Siena production of “RENT” in Francoeur Theater. Curtain times are at 8 p.m. each evening and also runs from Oct. 4-5. The 2013 Alumni Award winners will also be honored during a special ceremony at 4 p.m. Oct. 4. This year’s alumni award winners are:
- Outstanding Alumni Award winner Michael Morgan ’83 (Farmington, Conn.) and Jason Sanderson ’92 (Toledo, Ohio)
- Recent Graduate Award winner Erika Wolcott Henry ’07 (Dunwoody, Ga.)
- Sister Ann Joachim Award winner Catherine Zick Robinson ’69 (Ypsilanti, Mich.)
- St. Dominic Award winner Sister Jean Joseph Hughes, OP ’68 (Chicago, Ill.)
- Honorary Alumni Award winner Jennifer Hamlin Church (Petersburg, Mich.)
On Oct. 4 there is also a faculty/alumni art welcome reception and gallery opening at 6 p.m., a women’s volleyball match at 7 p.m. and women’s and men’s soccer matches at 5:30 and 8 p.m., respectively..
Prospective students and their parents are invited to Discover the Heights: Siena Visit Days at 9 a.m. Oct. 5 to check out the campus and soak up the Homecoming environment. For more information on Discover Days, contact 264-7180 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Oct. 5 there will also be a homecoming brunch at 11 a.m. in the McLaughlin University Center and Family Fun Tailgate at 11 a.m. that will feature activities for people of all ages. Later that day, the SHU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be inducted during a banquet (ticket required). There is also an alumni banquet (ticket required) after the game. At 9 p.m., Octoberfest is scheduled in the Fieldhouse.
On Oct. 6, the Athletic Department will conduct its annual golf scramble at the Wolf Creek Golf Club. There is also a Homecoming Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Dominic Chapel with a Celebration Brunch to follow.
