In keeping with the Mission of Siena Heights University, Career Services strives to assist students in becoming competent, purposeful and ethical through career development. This includes teaching students skills that will assist them with their life-long career path. Services and resources available to students include:

CAREER COUNSELING

Career counseling services are available to help students and alumni explore, identify, and define career goals.  Individual appointments are recommended to discuss a variety of career-related topics, including:

  • Selecting a major
  • Career choices within a major
  • Resumes, cover letters, interview techniques
  • Job search tips
  • Graduate and Professional school opportunities
  • Career fairs
  • Professional presentation

RESUMES, COVER LETTERS AND JOB SEARCH DOCUMENTS

The Career Center resources include reference books, guide sheets and sample documents to assist with the creation of professional job search documents. Students are encouraged to begin working on these documents early in their academic career so they are prepared for internships or full-time opportunities. The Career Center staff will critique documents free of charge. Please allow a 48-hour turnaround for document review.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Practice makes perfect. Testing out interview skills prior to the first interview is a good plan. Staff will conduct a mock job interview with students wishing to fine tune their skills before beginning a job search. During the mock interview, a counselor will ask questions relating to the student’s resume and experience. Feedback will be provided at the conclusion of the interview.

JOB POSTINGS

Career Services receives postings for both full-time and part-time employment opportunities. Internship opportunities are also posted through Career Services for Siena Heights University students and alumni. Job postings are found on the Open Options home page. Select Open Options from the Career Services home page and then open “Job Listings” or “Internships” to view current positions. In some cases a user id or password may be required. Please contact Career Services for this information if prompt shows on screen. Students should also check corporate and organizational web sites directly for open positions.

CAREER RESOURCES

The Career Center is open to students during regular business hours. Students may use reference materials in the Career Library; peruse guide sheets and other materials. Computers are also available for student use.
