SHU Homecoming Weekend 2020 Switching to a Virtual Format

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Siena Heights University will celebrate Homecoming Weekend 2020 virtually. Homecoming is scheduled from Oct. 2-4.

Annual events like the Alumni Awards ceremony, the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, alumni art reception and reunions will be offered in a virtual format. Saints Homecoming athletic events will remain, but the university is still waiting on direction from the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on whether spectators will be allowed to attend.

“We believe that not inviting our alumni and friends on campus that weekend is the right decision to make, with the information that we have at this time,” said SHU President, Sister Peg Albert. “With the current pandemic, we are trying to keep our campus as safe as possible for our students, faculty and staff, as well as for our alumni and visitors, and believe this decision is the correct precautionary measure to take.”

SHU Director of Alumni Relations Kate Hamilton said she working on a robust virtual schedule Siena alums can enjoy from the comfort of their own home.

“This is very challenging time for everyone, and I know it is a big disappointment to many, including myself, that we cannot celebrate an in-person traditional Homecoming Weekend on campus,” Hamilton said. “However, we hope that our alumni will still engage with Siena Heights, and we will do our best to engage our alumni in new and exciting ways during that week. This is an opportunity to have even more alumni join us online because they won't have to travel!"
