When: 1/21/2020
Where: Rueckert Auditorium

Gonzaga University Professor of English and former Poet Laureate of the state of Washington Tod Marshall will visit campus Jan. 21 as part of the Legacy Speaker Series at Siena Heights University.

As part of Siena Heights University’s "100 events for the 100th," the SHU Alumni Relations and Career Services offices are co-hosting this new monthly series during the Centennial anniversary year. The series will feature alumni who give a TED talk-style lecture, presentation or interview to discuss their career trajectory and the impact of their Siena Heights degree and experiences. The anniversary theme for the year is “Legacy.”

Marshall, who graduated from Siena Heights in 1990, will share his experiences during a presentation at 7 p.m. in Rueckert Auditorium. A reception will follow the program.

Being the first member of his family to graduate from college, Marshall studied English and philosophy at Siena Heights. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Eastern Washington University and his PhD from the University of Kansas. He has published three books of poetry, and was the recipient of the 2015 Washington State Book Award. He has also edited two anthologies of poetry and a collection of his interviews with contemporary poets.

Teaching English at Gonzaga, Marshall’s work has been widely published. He was the 2015 recipient of the Humanities Washington Award for leadership in the arts and humanities. In 2016, he served as Washington State’s Poet Laureate.

The event is free and open to the community.
