The Siena Heights University General Engineering program offers students an exciting pathway to a high demand, rewarding profession. The curriculum consists of a balance of engineering, physics, and mathematics courses, applied engineering projects, and classes in the liberal arts. The engineering experiences combined with a liberal arts education provides students with the technical knowledge and interpersonal skills needed in today’s workplace. The General Engineering program will seek accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology’s Engineering Accreditation Commission as soon as possible.
Through the Lower Cost Models for Independent Colleges Consortium, Siena Heights University (SHU) has a partnership with the University of North Dakota (UND).
The partnership is a dual degree program in which SHU students can earn two degrees in 4-5 years by sharing credits between the two institutions.
One degree is from SHU, and most students select General Engineering as their SHU major.
The second is an ABET-accredited engineering degree from the University of North Dakota (UND) in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering. The UND engineering classes are online with the exception of hands-on mechanical and chemical engineering lab courses, which are completed over two summers at UND.
SHU recently received a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to support low-income STEM majors with scholarships and academic support. Qualifying engineering students can receive scholarships for up to $10,000 per year.
Siena Heights’ Career Services offers valuable networking, internship, and career opportunities through workshops, job boards, and career fairs.
The Center for Student Success provides dedicated advisors to assist students with academic development.
Receive on-the-job training while getting paid. SHU engineering students have interned at:
- Rudolph Libby Group
- BASF
- DTE
- GEM Industrial
- Brazeway
- Glycon
- Adrian Tool
- Metro Solutions
- Staubli Corporation
- PlaneWave Instruments
- Pacific Industrial Development Corporation
The Siena Heights University General Engineering program will assist students graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
