Siena Heights University will confer honorary doctorates of humane letters to the members of the Adrian Dominican Sisters General Council during its commencement ceremonies on May 7 and 8 at 2 p.m. in the Fieldhouse on the campus of Siena Heights University.
Siena Heights University sought to recognize the founders of the university, the Adrian Dominican Sisters with deep gratitude. This congregation, steeped in the Dominican charisms of prayer, study, community, and preaching responded to the needs of young women by establishing a college so they could continue their education. In doing so, they planted and nurtured the seeds that have matured into fruitful graduates (including men since 1969) whose diverse gifts have blessed our world in a myriad of ways over the last century.
The variety of the talents of this group of leaders represents the diversity of gifts by which numerous Adrian Dominicans have served the University for more than a century.
Siena Heights President, Sister Peg Albert, OP, PhD., said, “Each member of the General Council possesses expertise in given areas. They stand together to meet the needs of the poor, the marginalized and the degradation of our planet. Justice and peace are always utmost in their statements and actions.”
The following women will be honored:
- Sister Patricia Siemen, OP, Prioress
- Sister Mary Margaret Pachucki, OP, Vicaress, General Councilor
- Sister Frances Nadolny, OP, Administrator, General Councilor
- Sister Patricia Harvat, OP, General Councilor
- Sister Elise Garcia, OP, General Councilor
Siena Heights University is grateful to the Adrian Dominican General Council for their leadership and their commitment to higher education.
